  • McGurk has scored three goals in 10 appearances since arriving at Pompey
  • Forward played 30 minutes for the reserves against Crawley on Tuesday afternoon

Adam McGurk wants to pick up where he left off as he eyes a regular Pompey run out.

The forward returned to Paul Cook’s starting line-up at Notts County last week following a seven-game absence.

To be honest, I felt better than I thought I would. I probably could have got another at least 10 or 15 minutes up to 80 minutes so that was pleasing

That spell on the sidelines was prompted by an ankle injury picked up while warming-up at Bristol Rovers – at a time when he had netted in successive matches.

Now he’s back, also playing 30 minutes for the reserves in their 4-2 Tuesday afternoon victory over Crawley Town.

And McGurk is hoping to remain in the side for tomorrow’s FA Cup visit of Macclesfield Town.

He said: ‘I have never had an ankle problem, no strappings or anything like that. Then that injury came out of nothing.

‘It’s rare but it’s done now. I am just concentrating on getting in the minutes and working harder.

‘It was brilliant to get back into the side again at Notts County. I think I did okay but I was quite rusty with my shooting and was a bit frustrated with that.

‘To be honest, I felt better than I thought I would. I probably could have got another 10 or 15 minutes up to 80 minutes, so that was pleasing.

‘I thought I would be feeling a lot more leggy than I did. I felt pretty sharp considering I had missed the last four weeks, so that was a positive personally.

‘Hopefully, if the manager decides to pick me tomorrow and I get another however-many minutes, I should be feeling good.

‘The main thing is trying to stay injury free now and trying to help the club.’
