Pompey’s January recruitment drive has been declared finished following the arrival of Ben Chorley.

As revealed by The News yesterday, the central defender penned an 18-month deal at Fratton.

It brings the number of Richie Barker’s signings during the transfer window to six as he revamps his squad.

The 31-year-old has arrived from Stevenage and joins Wes Fogden, Nicky Shorey, Jake Jervis, Daniel Alfei and Ryan Taylor in the Blues squad.

But there will be no more arrivals as Barker instead turns his attention to reducing numbers.

He said: ‘That’s it now, we are definitely finished.

‘We are stronger and have more competition for places as well as plenty of options at our disposal.

‘The other day up front we had Patrick Agyemang and David Connolly for hold-up play and Ryan Taylor and Jake Jervis as the legs alongside them.

‘It’s about having different choices and I feel we have that all over the park.

‘I am happy with the squad and if anything we are a little bit too big and looking at one or two people to go out on loan.’

Meanwhile, Pompey’s March trip to Chesterfield has been switched for television.

The Blues were scheduled to make a first-ever visit to the Proact Stadium on Saturday, March 1.

However, the fixture against the League Two promotion hopefuls has now been allocated for Sky and will instead take place on Monday, March 3.

Last week, the washed-out match against Accrington at Fratton Park was rearranged for Tuesday, February 25.
