Pompey are closing in on securing an attractive fixture to end their pre-season campaign.

Saturday, July 27, has been pencilled in to stage a second Fratton Park friendly.

The Blues are still in negotiations over the opposition.

Although, it is understood they are near to finalising the match.

Guy Whittingham is keen to see his men perform against a top-level side in their final game before the League Two campaign kicks off on August 3.

A number of options have been looked at, including the possibility of a foreign club.

Sides from the Premier League and Championship have also been approached.

Pompey’s pre-season campaign already contains non-league teams in the form of the Hawks (July 9), Bognor (July 13) and Braintree (July 16).

They will also face Championship outfits Bournemouth (July 23) and Charlton (July 20) this summer, with the latter taking place at Fratton Park.

In addition, the development group is to play at Gosport Borough on Tuesday, July 30.

A match against Salisbury City has also now been revealed for Wednesday, July 24 (7.45pm) – again focusing on the youngsters.

A Pompey XI lost 2-1 at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium last summer, with Jack Compton getting the consolation for a side featuring mainly first-year professionals.

Now there is one more fixture left to fill in the final weekend before the league season commences.

The Football League fixtures will be published on Wednesday, June 19 at 9am.

The Capital One Cup draw is on June 17 at 9.30am.
