Pompey have lined up a trip to Bournemouth as part of their pre-season programme.

Guy Whittingham’s men will visit the newly-promoted Championship side on Tuesday, July 23 (7.45pm).

It is the fifth fixture arranged for the Blues summer schedule – with one more game still to be finalised.

Pompey hope a second home friendly will take place on Saturday, July 27 against high-profile opposition.

That will be in addition to the Fratton Park visit of Charlton on Saturday, July 20.

The players will actually return for pre-season on June 27 for two days of fitness tests.

Full training will then start on Monday, July 1, before the friendlies begin to kick in.

Their first match is a trip to Westleigh Park to face the Hawks on Tuesday, July 9.

Then, on Saturday, July 13, it is a visit to Bognor.

The third match of pre-season will take place at Braintree on Tuesday, July 16.

The Essex club finished ninth in Blue Square Bet Premier this season and are managed by former West Ham midfielder Alan Devonshire.

Then there is Charlton (July 20) and Bournemouth (July 23) as the schedule is almost complete.

The Blues twice faced Bournemouth in league action last season – the most recent being a 2-0 Dean Court defeat in February.

The reverse fixture on the opening day of the League Two campaign produced a 1-1 draw.

It has been almost three years since the last friendly against the Cherries, which has often proven to be a regular summer fixture.

The last time was in July 2010 when Marc Wilson scored the only goal of the game for a Pompey team which contained Matt Ritchie, Michael Brown and David Nugent.

Back in July 2008, Peter Crouch netted twice in a 4-1 victory. Sulley Muntari and Jermain Defoe were the other scorers.

And in July 2007, Lomana Lualua bagged a hat-trick in a 4-1 triumph.
