CHICHESTER beat the weather to record a fine 5-0 win away to St Nicholas.

City were keen to build on their 2-1 win over Shanklin the previous week and started brightly, dominating possession and restricting the home team to very few touches inside their half.

St Nicholas were struggling to get the ball forward thanks to excellent work by Becky Barron in midfield and Lauren Ellis and Emma Alexandre at the back.

Lauren Cheshire and Sian Payne were causing problems on the right and Lucie Challen in central midfield was also a danger.

The first goal came when Kelly Ambler wriggled past several players and found herself with only the keeper to beat, which she did.

The second came shortly after as Ambler beat two players on the edge of the area and, while falling backwards, unleashed a powerful strike into the net.

They added their third when, after a powerful run into the box, Challen slotted low into the net from a tight angle.

The first half scoring was complete when Jenna Fowlie crossed for Naomi Greene and with a sharp turn she stabbed the ball in.

St Nicholas came out for the second half with renewed vigour, but Chi keeper Nea Piiroinen was equal to everything.

Very few chances were being created by either team but in the final few minutes, the game opened up as St Nicholas sought a consolation.

In the dying minutes Ambler gambled on a ball over the top and with both goalkeeper and defender missing it, the slotted the ball into an empty net to complete the scoring and her hat-trick.
