Just under a year ago, Chichester City Ladies manager Matt Wright launched a project with the aim of promoting playing opportunities for young girls in the area.
From this, a hugely successful Saturday club has been developed. Girls aged six to 14 attend Chichester College every
Saturday morning to play and be coached by senior players from the City ladies’ team.
The second aim of the project was to allow the volunteer coaches an opportunity to gain their FA coaching badges.
Both Lauren Ellis and Georgia Selby have been coaching the young girls since the project started and recently undertook and successfully passed their FA level two qualification.
Selby said: “I believe it has provided me with a great influx of knowledge to help the kids develop into the best footballers they can be and has provided me with more confidence in my ability to coach at a high level in a wider range of sessions.”
The club have five female coaches going on to the FA level one course over the next two months.
Wright said: “The girls’ club has been fantastic for all of the young players who have attended. We’re also starting to see the benefit for the coaches who have volunteered their time.”
The Saturday club continue to seek new female players and coaches to be part of this exciting project. For more
