Guy Whittingham targeted a winning run until the end of the season after Pompey’s 1-0 victory over Tranmere.
David Connolly’s second-half winner continued the Blues’ remarkable turnaround, making it just two defeats from their past 11 matches.
Caretaker boss Whittingham was full of praise for his team, particularly their defending.
And with Pompey still in with an outside chance of finishing outside of the relegation zone - which would likely see them hit with a 10-point deduction this season rather than next term - Whittingham is eyeing four more victories to end the campaign in style.
He said: ‘I think Preston was probably a bit of practice for today. They put a lot of balls into our box for the last 15-20 minutes and we defended magnificently.
‘Yassin (Moutaouakil) has grown and grown with us since he has come in and he is looking a real prospect for us. Him and Jed combined well and that bit of nous from David Connolly to step into the right area.
‘The players here at this moment in time know what the fans want and they are going out and giving their all.
‘Four games to go now. Hopefully we can go out and win every game.’
