CHICHESTER were in rampant form against a patched-up Lingfield side, with goals from Frazer Smith (2), Morgan Forry and Joe Gromett providing a runaway 4-1 victory in division one of the Sussex League.

Forry had the first proper chance of the match on 17 minutes following a quick breakaway, although his finish lacked power and was scooped up by Lingfield’s under-16 keeper Jason Wilson-Southwell.

But the goalie had no chance four minutes later when the ball was played square to Smith, who rifled in a shot from a perfect position 15 yards out.

City were in control, but the search for a second before the interval proved fruitless. Tom Groom, performing excellently on the right wing, spooned the ball on to the crossbar from short range in the 44th minute.

Lingfield had their best spell in the early stages of the second half and sub Dan Adjei planted the ball into the net on 58 minutes - but it was ruled out.

A howler from the Lingfield keeper on 63 minutes gave City a 2-0 lead when a routine shot from Groom was fumbled and Forry was on hand to tap in.

Wilson-Southwell redeemed himself, acting with composure to block an oncoming Forry shot with his legs.

The Lingfield players, however, had lost all heart and Chichester enjoyed virtual total possession. A superb move involving half-a-dozen players on 78 minutes culminated in Smith walking the ball into the net.

Late on, the crowd were treated to two more spectacular goals, with Gromett’s sublime lofted delivery from the edge of the box making it 4-0 in the 86th minute before Adjei replied with an equally-impressive goal for Lingfield a moment later.

City ground out a 1-0 victory over Ringmer on Tuesday thanks to a Tom Groom goal.

The decider came after seven minutes with Ringmer paying the price for not dealing with City pressure.

Perry Northeast almost scored with a rocket on 20 minutes while Frazer Smith, Morgan Forry and Groom all had decent attempts later.

Ringmer never seriously troubled Anthony Ender.
