Chichester City Ladies have secured a massive FA Cup date at home to West Ham after dumping Peterborough out of the competition.
City produced a cup upset by defeating the Posh girls 5-2 – Abbey Shrubb scoring all five – to set up an enticing second-round draw at home against the Hammers on Sunday, January 8 (1pm).
Peterborough arrived at a soggy Oaklands Park for a classic Cup tie.
Chichester started well and moved the ball around superbly considering conditions underfoot.
Peterborough responded well and penetrated Chichester’s right flank several times.
Just as it looked as though the match was heading for a goalless first half, Peterborough were awarded a penalty against Wride for holding a player back in the box, which was converted.
This brought Chichester to life and Shrubb reacted well to some sensational through-balls from Wride and Thompson, notching up a hat-trick in seven minutes before the end of the half.
Peterborough came out fighting and pushed Chichester hard for the first 20 minutes of the second half and deservedly got a goal back.
The battle moved to the midfield with Madden and Richardson working hard while the centre-halves remained solid and McNarmara made some amazing saves.
Captain Willett continued to battle on the left and eventually won a free-kick and quick thinking from Wride found Shrubb, who added her fourth.
Chichester regained confidence and dominated once more and Shrubb scored her fifth of the day to make sure of a shock.
