Bosham shake up Shipley - then are beaten by Barnham

First-half goals from Leon Smith and Joe Hancock brought much-needed Easter cheer to Walton Lane as Bosham beat TD Shipley in Sussex League division three.

Nine minutes in, the Reds were in front. Hancock headed the ball across the area and Smith rose powerfully at the back stick to head the opener.

Just after the half-hour, Bosham got their second. Referee Philip Wilkes pointed to the spot when Graeme Dowden was clumsily fouled. Hancock stepped up and converted.

Ryan Taylor pulled one back for Shipley four minutes later.

BOSHAM: Hasted, Stent, Jack Hancock, Blanshard, Smith, Giambelardini, Probee, Docherty, Joe Hancock, Dowden, Brett. Subs: Hillier, Redman, Docherty, Ash.

A hat-trick by Ash Harper sealed the points for Barnham in front of one of the largest crowds of the season at rainy Walton Lane.

Around the half-hour Barnham twice found a way to goal through Harper.

Just before the hour Ryan Hillier received the ball wide on the right and produced an immaculate chipped goal.

Minutes later Aaron Hancock restored the two-goal advantage as a telling cross from Harper was slammed home.

Ben Blanshard’s powerful header made it 3-2 but the equaliser wouldn’t come and Harper finished with ease from a lovely pass from Pedrick.

Bosham manager Hancock was delighted with his team’s spirit.

BOSHAM: Hasted, Stent, Blanshard, Smith, Jack Hancock, Probee, Giambelardini, Docherty, Docherty, Dowden, Hillier. Subs: Ash, Brett, Redman, Joe Hancock.
