Paul Cook calls on Pompey faithful to stick by his style

Paul Cook has appealed for patience from the Fratton faithful as he attempts to fire up his spluttering Pompey side.

The Blues currently sit in fifth spot, but are without a win in their past five League Two matches during a disappointing period.

It is a frustration Cook shares with supporters, who will again turn out in large numbers when York visit Fratton Park tonight (7.45pm).

Pompey continue to impress on the road and were outstanding in the opening half of Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Carlisle.

Yet they remain draw specialists on home turf – and Cook has called on fans to stick with his playing style as he strives for that winning Fratton Park formula.

He said: ‘I appeal to our supporters that we are trying to create an environment of good football played in the correct and proper manner, so stay with it.

We haven’t produced as well as we would have liked in front of our own fans, of course we haven’t, but going forwards will we? Of course we will

‘It might get slow at times in certain aspects, but going forward I believe it is the way we can climb higher than we are and be more successful.

‘We haven’t produced as well as we would have liked in front of our own fans, of course we haven’t, but going forwards will we? Of course we will.

‘From the supporters’ point of view, we have had so much change. They have put up with so much for three years, but now is the time – coming into the next few weeks – to really get behind the lads, irrespective of how we are playing or what we are doing.

‘No matter how the results are, we are not going to change anything in November or December, so let’s get behind each other now and see where we can be in January.’

Pompey have drawn four of their past five league games, yet have only two League Two defeats so far this season.
