Pompey boss Paul Cook is running the rule over staff from within before deciding whether to add to his backroom.

The Blues are currently hunting for a new strength and conditioning coach and a goalkeeping coach.

These lads are in possession of the job at the minute. If you want to keep possession of your job work hard and be good at it

In the meantime, the Academy’s head of sports science, Adrian Cooke, has stepped up to take on the fitness role formerly filled by Louis Langdown.

In addition, last season’s goalkeeping coach, Scott Bevan has been earmarked for a return to the Academy.

However, he is presently looking after the first-team keepers on a temporary basis while Cook’s search goes on.

The duo were with the first-team in Portugal and Cook is continuing to assess whether they should get the nod permanently.

He said: ‘We are actively looking for a strength and conditioning coach and are also looking for a goalkeeping coach.

‘But if these lads do well within the job I am sure they will keep the roles.

‘Young Adrian Cooke has stepped up from the Academy at the minute because the lads are raving about how good he is. I am going to give him an opportunity to work with the first-team and if he stays then good.

‘Scott is doing the goalkeeping coaching but will go back into the Academy if someone is brought in. At the minute he has taken it on and possession of anything is nine tenths of the law.

‘I believe the club should have an identity, I like people moving up. You want to say “Look what happens if you are doing well within the club”.

‘I do think there are ladders of progression.
