Pompey will leave it late to see if Nigel Atangana can make a return at Burton.
And the Blues will do the same to see if Nick Awford can come back into contention tomorrow.
But Andy Awford has been boosted by the news Joe Devera and Ben Chorley will be available for selection against the Brewers.
Captain Chorley and Devera both trained yesterday as Awford’s side go to League Two’s early pacesetters.
Chorley missed out on Tuesday with a dead leg, while a neck problem has been hindering Devera.
But Atangana, who has impressed since arriving at Fratton Park from the Hawks, tweaked his hamstring at Huish Park.
Midfielder Awford has sat out of training along with Atangana.
Pompey travel to Staffordshire today with Awford weighing up his options.
Jack Whatmough has recovered from an ankle problem but is on international duty with England under-19s.
Awford said: ‘Nigel and Nick we will have to see before the game. They are both doubts.
‘Nigel hasn’t trained but we will try to get him out there to see if there’s any chance of him being available.
‘We’ve been assessing that and will see how he is.
‘Nick hasn’t trained because of his shoulder.
‘He’s the same as Nigel, so we will have to wait and see if we can get them back out there.
‘Jack had the ankle problem but trained.
‘So he’s going to play for England. What a fixture for him to go and enjoy.’
‘Joe has a cricked neck but is fit and available.
‘He trained and has been fine and so is Ben.’
Pompey are undefeated away from home in the league since Awford came into the job in March.
That spans a run of six games ahead of meeting Gary Rowett’s side.
Awford said: ‘I’ve been delighted with our performances on the road.’
