Gabor Gyepes lifted the lid on his Pompey stay and promised: I want to be part of a bright future here.
The defender insisted he was willing to remain at Fratton Park for the long haul – if there is stability on the horizon for the club.
Gyepes looked certain to be on his way during the January transfer window in the face of continuing uncertainty surrounding the Blues.
The 31-year-old Hungarian made it clear he was looking for more settled circumstances, after having to live apart from his family while on a month-to-month contract.
He eventually took the decision to remain before the close of the window, however, and stay on with the side he joined on a free transfer last summer.
Gyepes is enjoying playing for Pompey in League One but is craving the professional, working environment that’s been missing from the club.
The ever-changing ownership situation is edging closer to a finale.
The Pompey Supporters’ Trust are now the only hope for survival, after the Football League ruled out any further bids for the Blues on Thursday.
In the meantime, Gyepes revealed he was going nowhere, and could be open to an extended stay if Pompey can find a future with hope.
He said: ‘I’m staying. Up until January 5 I tried to leave the window open for my future, but nothing happened.
‘I didn’t want to just leave the club and wait for a miracle. So I told the gaffer (Guy Whittingham) that I wanted to stay, try to help and play as many games as possible.
‘Then we can see what happens in the future.
‘I’m happy with the club. It’s a great club.
‘We are waiting for a new board and owners. But what is around the club now is not professional.
‘Since I’ve been here, every week you hear it will be sold in a couple of weeks. But nothing happens.
‘If new owners are serious and want to motivate the club and take it forward, then, yes, I would like to be part of it.
‘But I will wait first for something to happen.’
The central defender made it clear the ever-changing Pompey backline is no excuse for the current 18-game run of losses in the wake of the defeat to Scunthorpe on Tuesday.
But Gyepes admitted it had not been an easy task coming to terms with the constant stream of new faces.
Pompey are now on the brink of breaking the 50-player mark for the season, following the arrivals of Patrick Agyemang, Therry Racon and John Akinde yesterday.
Gyepes said: ‘When you play every week with different players it’s hard.
‘Normally when you have a team that is what pre-season is for – to build the team up.
‘You use the players you have in the season. But this season it’s players in and out. It’s a little bit crazy.’
