Linvoy’s Legends rolled back the years on a night to remember at West Leigh Park.
Primus’ side ran out 7-5 winners against Soccer AM on a fantastic fundraising evening for Faith & Football.
Teddy Sheringham was the star turn as he showed he still possesses the same quality which made him a magician during his playing career.
He was on the scoresheet and delivered a masterly performance before leaving the game in the second-half to a fine ovation.
The likes of Richard Hughes, Darren Moore, Vincent Pericard, Darren Anderton and Lee Bradbury turned on the style for Linvoy’s team.
And Greg Halford got to say his goodbyes to Pompey fans with a move away from Fratton Park this summer inevitable.
He appeared for the Soccer AM side on a night which saw fans turn out in decent numbers to boost the Faith & Football’s coffers.
It took eight minutes for Sheringham to show his class remains, as he stroked a 20-yard finish home for the Legends.
Pericard doubled their advantage five minutes later before Soccer AM presenter Max Rushden reduced the deficit after a couple of shoddy misses.
There were plenty of opportunities for Harlem Globetrotters stuff from the Legends with Sheringham, Anderton and a slimline Hughes at the heart of most of the entertaining play.
Anderton made it 3-1 but some tactical tinkering from a sheepskin-jacketed Soccer AM boss Hermann Hreidarsson saw his side pull a goal back before the break.
The highlight of the second-half arrived before a ball was kicked – when Primus fell flat on his face coming back on to the pitch.
But the biggest cheer was reserved for Kev the Kitman when he blasted a chance out of the ground after the restart.
In between, a pitch invasion went unnoticed by the match officials when Helen Chamberlain was smuggled across the pitch by Rushden.
Perry Ryan equalised for Soccer AM before Big Kev drew more cheers – this time for some twinkling footwork which left the Sky TV side’s backline foundering.
Touchline Tony Male showed he can play a bit as well as waffle on about football with a smart finish to put the Legends back in front.
But Soccer AM made a fist of it and grabbed a goal back before Pericard and then Primus himself got on the scoresheet.
There was still time for Halford to grab a Soccer AM strike before a fitting end to the evening came from Primus.
He showed the kind of silky feet he never had in his playing days to dance around the Soccer AM defence ala Lionel Messi and get the final goal of a great evening.
