Pompey youngster Adam May has joined non-league neighbours Gosport Borough on loan.

The highly-rated 17-year-old midfielder made his Blues debut under caretaker boss Gary Waddock towards the end of last season.

He made his first senior start for the club in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy defeat at Exeter earlier this term.

Boss Paul Cook is looking to cut back his squad but was more intent on finding regular first-team football at a high standard for a player with a bright future.

After Borough had their approach accepted for an initial 28-day youth loan, the teenager will now get the opportunity to play just two divisions below the Blues.

But he will return for Pompey’s under-18 side as they continue their FA Youth Cup campaign.

Borough boss Alex Pike said: ‘We’re delighted to get him. He’s a player we have been after for a while.

‘We were looking to take him two or three weeks ago but we understand that Portsmouth’s commitments come first.

‘We really appreciate Paul Cook allowing such an exciting talent to join our club on loan.

‘We have used the loan system to full effect in the past two or three seasons.

‘During that time, you start to get a bit of experience and learn which sort of players will make an impact at our level. I think Adam is definitely one of those.

‘I believe he will make a big impact and people like Paul Cook, Mikey Harris and various other people think he will go on and have a fantastic career.’

May will now go straight into the Borough squad for their home showdown with Hemel Hempstead in Vanarama National League South.
