Guy Whittingham revelled in what he called Pompey’s ‘best display of the season’ after they crushed Sheffield United 3-0 at a rocking Fratton Park.
The caretaker Blues boss saw his troops claim a fine win - on the day that the 10-point deduction was confirmed for this season, which enables Pompey to start afresh under the Trust ownership in League Two next term.
And with more than 18,000 fans inside Fratton Park, Whittingham was delighted to deliver the win the supporters craved.
He said: ‘I think it was our best display of the season. We knew we could get at them quickly and we did that. I was really pleased.
‘We put in a lot of hard work and it paid off.
‘I was delighted for the fans who have backed us all season and it was a fantastic atmosphere.
‘The players have worked so hard since we got this group together in February.
‘The pressure was on Sheffield United and it was not on us.
‘We all wish that February was the start of the season but we will prepare for next season.
‘We created and took our goals well and everyone can look forward to the future with optimism.’
