They were the Rocks’ 12th man all season long – and their fans were given another thank-you by the team’s management as they came to terms with their play-off heartache.

Hundreds of supporters backed the Rocks home and away throughout a thrilling campaign. In fact, the total number of fans who have gone through the gates to watch the side is around 20,000 – and a home average of more than 400 is the envy of many clubs in higher divisions. But it wasn’t just the numbers that impressed the players and management – it was the unwavering backing fans (pictured left at Chatham) gave the team.

Not even when it all went wrong with the failure to win at Chatham and then the play-off defeat to Dulwich Hamlet did supporters turn against the players.

Joint manager Jamie Howell said: “The fans have been absolutely fantastic. They followed us everywhere and spurred us on when things weren’t going so well.

“They’ve been as consistent as the team, really. The fans have performed week in, week out, home and away, in all weathers and it’s been fabulous.”

His management partner Darin Killpartrick said: “We can’t thank the fans enough for their support. It’s not gone unnoticed, I can promise them that.

“Hopefully they’ll be back next season and we’ll give them more to smile about.”
