Sidlesham put eight past Ifield and there was a mixed Easter for Midhurst.

Sidlesham 8 Ifield 2

Sussex League division three

Following last week’s setback, the Sids stormed to a big win to keep their slim hopes of promotion on track.

They went straight on the attack pinning Ifield into their half and on eight minutes a through-ball to Tom Kelly saw him nip past a couple of defenders to put the ball beyond the Ifield keeper.

It was not until the 20th minute that the second goal came when Daniel Millins scored.

The next ten minutes put the match beyond Ifield as the Sids piled on the pressure and Dan Bassil made it 3-0 on 24 minutes then a rasping drive from Dan Cowell made it 4-0 on 27 minutes. Within two minutes Tom Jefkins had made it 5-0.

Ifield looked shattered and were lucky to go in at half-time with only five goals against them.

The second half began with the Sids still pushing forward but it took a goal from Ifield on 70 minutes to get them going again and on 75 minutes Bassil scored his second.

The hosts brought on Steve Williams and Jay Smith and within two minutes Jefkins scored again, but Ifield hit back again on 80 minutes.

Sids were not finished and on 85 minutes Jefkins completed his hat-trick, but this was a fine team effort.

SIDS: Rochester, Millins, Carrigher, G Jefkins, Grantham, T Jefkins, Kelly, Robinson, Bassil, Phillips, Cowell, Smith, Williams.

Sussex League division two

Midhurst find themselves in the bottom three - but only by a point - after two contrasting games over Easter.

First they welcomed Oakwood to Rotherfield, but lost 3-0.

A 22nd-minute own goal was added to by second-half goals by Sam Came and Gez Manville for the visitors.

Monday saw Loxwood visit Rotherfield having just heard they had been promoted to division one.

Midhurst were in determined mood but Andre Elkana scored after 40 minutes - that after some sustained Midhurst attacks.

Will Stevens, a newcomer to the Midhurst side, was prominent and linked well with his fellow midfielders.

Rob Wimble scored after 48 minutes and as the game wore on, the referee had to speak to the visiting team officials several times and eventually produced two red cards.

David Wright brought down Billy Chatfield in the penalty area. Paul Williams in the Loxwood goal anticipated Gary Norgate’s spot-kick but wasn’t able to save it.

This Saturday Midhurst meet Westfield at Rotherfield (2pm).

MIDHURST: Knight, Dummer, White, Newton, Norgate, Hyde, Stevens, Peck, Wimble, Hamilton, Sheldrick.
