First we decided that 10p from every Sports Mail sold would be put into Pompey.
Now we have followed suit with our summer edition.
Only this time, all money raised will go towards the FanFunding campaign to improve the Blues’ Academy facilities.
The News will be donating 10p from every summer Sports Mail sale made since its May 10 launch.
That will continue until August 2, after which our Saturday sports paper will revert to the traditional Sports Mail in time for the new season’s kick off.
We handed a cheque for £12,901.40 over to the club before the final match of the 2013-14 campaign against Plymouth.
That figure was achieved through the Fratton faithful, who have embraced the Sports Mail upon its return through popular demand.
With 10p from each copy sold going into the Blues’ coffers, it ensures the fans have once again helped out their football club financially.
Such has been the tremendous success of that commitment to Pompey, The News intends to maintain it during the coming campaign.
In the meantime, the summer Sports Mail will be throwing its support behind the campaign to raise £250,000 for the Academy.
That is the figure required to construct two Academy pitches at the club’s new Roko training home.
In partnership with organisers Tifosy, more than £119,000 has currently been raised by supporters with 31 days remaining.
We are also doing our bit and will donate 10p from every sale to aid the club reach their ambitious target.
The community united to save its football club, now it has stepped forward again in an attempt to secure the future of the Academy.
The FanFunding campaign continues to demonstrate to the world of football what those loyal supporters of Pompey can achieve working together.
Organisers have been stunned at the reaction during the opening month of the scheme.
Now 10p from every summer Sports Mail sold will also go towards it – so pick up your copy from your local newsagent every weekend.
