Izale McLeod celebrated his latest strike and told Pompey fans: I’ll graft for you.

McLeod grabbed his fourth goal of the season in the 2-1 success over Yeovil last night.

The 27-year-old delivered a rasping first-half drive to help make it two wins on the bounce for the Blues.

That was the highlight of an industrious performance from the striker, which drew praise from Michael Appleton.

McLeod’s work rate is an area that has been questioned by some supporters this season.

But there was no doubting his efforts last night.

McLeod said: ‘We worked hard and put them under a lot pressure. We executed the game plan really well.

‘Me and Wes (Thomas) linked up quite well and we’re only going to get better. Any manager will tell you your forwards need to work hard.

‘Me and Wes did run our socks off and have got a few bruises with it.

‘It’s all worth it, though. That’s why we are at a big club like Portsmouth.

‘That’s what the fans want to see here – that’s the minimum requirement.’

McLeod and Thomas were a constant thorn in the side of Gary Johnson’s side last night.

McLeod feels the pair and the team have sent out a warning shot to their League One rivals.

He said: ‘It’s two wins on the spin. It sends out a message to the rest of the league that we’re serious.’
