There’s no place to Hyde for Steyning as Midhurst show powers of recovery

After the debacle of Midhurst’s 12-0 defeat at East Preston, a Lewis Hyde double earned a 2-1 victory in the Sussex League division two cup at Steyning.

They were missing six regulars, which meant call-ups for Marcus Williams, Matt Clayton and Tom Elcock.

The Stags were still feeling sorry for themselves in the opening 20 minutes and fell behind when a corner wasn’t dealt with.

The visitors and Hyde in particular weren’t going to let another game run away, though.

A fine run and cross by Sean Dummer saw Hyde score with a tremendous header from 12 yards to gave the Stags new impetus.

In the second half man of the match Hyde scored the winner when he struck home a free-kick from 25 yards.

The home team upped their efforts and Midhurst keeper Willo made two good saves.

It was important the team got some pride back and this win was thoroughly-deserved.

Next up for the Stags is a home game in the Sussex Senior Cup on Saturday against first-division side Arundel.
