Could Groove Armada return to Goodwood in the future?

Bosses at Goodwood racecourse are in discussions with Groove Armada about rejigging their DJ set - but it is unlikely to happen this year.

The venue says it cannot fit a rescheduled appearance by the dance act into the 2012 schedule.

Groove Armada’s Andy Cato has said he is happy to come back and play for free.

Goodwood marketing and PR manager Bradley Eccleshare said: “With our existing schedule it is unlikely that we can secure an opportunity for 2012 but are in discussions regarding the future.”

Those who had tickets for last night have been offered the choice of a 50 per cent refund - after the racing which preceded the music was completed without problems - or a ticket to an alternative Goodwood event, including either of the next two Friday nights, when Dermot O’Leary and then Mike Skinner take centre stage after racing.

Cato’s appearance last night was blacked out by a power cut which blew the whole of the racecourse’s power around 9.15 just as staff were transforming the winners’ enclosure and parade ring ready for Cato to get the party started at 9.30.

But with the set not allowed to go on beyond 11pm, with no sign of the power being restored at 9.45 they reluctantly took the decision to abandon it.

Power was restored at 10.20 - too late to save the night.

Mr Eccleshare added: “The event was cancelled because of safety implications within our grandstands and a decision needed to be reached whilst we benefitted from natural light.

“We were pleased with that patience and understanding demonstrated by our racegoers.”

As reported earlier, people with tickets for last Friday are asked to contact the Goodwood ticket office on Monday from 9.30am on 01243 755055. Contact needs to be from the original purchaser of tickets.
