MEMBERS of Arun Gymnastics Club’s elite squads were back in action at an invitational pre-grades competition hosted by the New Dimension Gymnastics Academy in Tunbridge Wells.

Grading occurs regionally once a year and is used to assess gymnasts for the women’s artistic discipline against a set of nationally-laid-down and increasingly-difficult elements. This competition was organised to enable the gymnasts to test themselves before the actual grades in March.

Ten gymnasts from Arun made the trip to Kent and their youngest competitors were Ellie Flinders, Daisy Evans, Summer Harris and Sophie Horn, all just starting out at grade 14.

Ellie, Daisy and Summer were competing in age and Summer finished highest individually, coming sixth overall following an excellent joint first place on bars and consistent performances across the other elements.

Daisy had three wonderful performances, sharing first place on bars with Summer, placing second on vault and third on floor which helped her finish overall seventh. Ellie had top-ten places for her floor and range and conditioning and finished 11th overall.

Sophie was competing out of age and had a fantastic competition, with her excellent second-place finishes on both the beam and bars and third places on floor and range and conditioning helping her to third place overall and a well-deserved bronze.

There was a team competition for grade 14 competitors and Arun took third place and bronze.

In the grade 13 competition, Arun were represented by Olivia Pinchbeck and she delivered a solid performance across all five elements with first place on bars, third place on vault and fourth in range helping her to finish fourth overall - only narrowly missing out on a bronze medal by 0.05 of a mark.

The grade 12 competition saw four more Arun gymnasts compete. Grace Markey was competing in age and she put in a wonderful bars performance that placed her second and gained third place on vault which helped her to overall eighth place.

Amelia Rishman, Gabriella Noviello and Lucy Aldred were all competing out of age and Amelia finished highest with a third place on bars and beam and fourth on floor contributing to her winning the individual bronze medal for overall third place.

Gabriella also put in three great performances with third place on both vault and floor and fourth for her bars, helping her to overall sixth, while Lucy put in a stunning floor routine that saw her placed first and a fourth on bars helping her to ninth overall.

In the team competition, Arun took overall second with all the girls receiving a well-deserved silver medal.

The last competitor for Arun was Molly Evans who was entered into the grade 11 out-of-age competition and she enjoyed a wonderful competition with her excellent consistency winning her the overall silver medal following second place on vault, third on beam, fourth on floor and fifth on the bars.

Head coach Mandy Hawkins was extremely pleased with all the gymnasts’ efforts and encouraged by the results.
