Carpenter carves out a top time in London Marathon

The star performance from the nine Chichester Runners taking part in last Sunday’s London Marathon came from Angela Carpenter.

She set a club record of 3hr 5min 31sec to finish 1,622nd overall.

Not only did this run beat the time of all her male club-mates, it put her in the top 100 women overall and a magnificent 20th in her over-40 veterans’ category.

This was a just reward for a fine string of performances in a number of road races in recent months including a recent half marathon which she did in 1.25, which proved to be an accurate guide to the full distance.

Next home in London was Nick Casburn in 3.09.29 (1,992nd) followed by Mark Jennings 3.33.38 (5,177th), Jan Hill 3.58.13 (10,489th and 18th veteran over-60), Carol Palmer 4.15.04 (14,660th and 41st veteran over 60), Shan Langley 4.15.46 (14,843rd), Nigel McNestrie 4.18.57 (15696th), Martin Miller 4.35.30 (20,027th), Carla Wood 4.50.47 (23,808th).

While some of the club were battling over 26 miles, another 11 were in action in the Angmering Bluebell ten-mile and 10k races.

First home for them over the ten-mile route was Colin Harley in 31st followed by Nick Palmer 41st, Kevin Lockyear 52nd, David Knight 63rd, Tracy Jayant 72nd, Peter Shaw 104th and Sue Baker 121st. Those opting for the more popular 10k were Brian Waterfield 53rd, Norman Marshall 68th, Philip Wise 140th and Lynn Harley 311th.
