Chichester High School for Boys’ under-13 rugby team failed to round off their season in style, losing to Brighton College 31-0 in the final of the Sussex Cup.

That might sound a one-sided match but it was far from it. Brighton College had one outstanding player who scored all 31 points through a combination of power and pace.

Apart from that player, Chichester were the better team. They dominated the scrum and had parity at the breakdown area.

They had many chances to drive over for tries but a combination of great defence and the occasional fumbles let down the High School boys.

In the second half, Brighton came into Chichester’s half only three times but their outstanding centre scored on two of those occasions.

The CHSB under-13s can be proud of an exremely strong season.

They have developed well as a group and can look forward to an even better season next year.

Head coach Keith Martin said: “This group of players will form the basis of an excellent first XV for the High School in the future as well as being the next generation for Chichester RFC.”
