A record number of Chichester’s junior cross-country runners were at Croydon to represent Sussex in the South of England inter-county event.
With Sussex having one of their best days at this event, two of the Chichester contingent came home with team bronzes.
The fast finish of Beth Garland ensured third for Sussex in the under-17 women’s race with her 23rd place giving her team the bronze on countback.
Georgina Warner was 31st in a race won by national champion Jessica Judd.
The other medal was won by Rose Ellis in the under-15 race with a fine 41st place, fourth scorer for Sussex.
With half the selected Sussex team in this race from Chichester, Ellis was closely followed by Emma Maynard in 47th and Charlotte Reading in 61st with Hannah Croad having to withdraw through injury.
Chichester had three representatives in the under-15 boys’ race with Harry Leleu second Sussex runner home in 17th, Josh James 35th and Dan Eeles 48th. Their team had to be content with fourth place.
Josh Eeles was the club’s sole representative in the under-13 race, finishing 49th, a good effort.
There was also local interest in the senior women’s event with Midhurst teacher Emily Alden finishing seventh in the winning Surrey team.
