Cowdray Park all set for a packed polo programme

Cowdray Park’s busy polo season opens on Saturday, April 27.

An early-season highlight will be the appearance of the England team on Saturday, May 18 when they face the combined might of South America in the St Regis International Cup.

A shopping village, bars, food and entertainment add to the attractions. Front-row picnic positions and entry tickets may be purchased in advance at www.cowdraypolo.co.uk. Entry on the day is £15, under 12s free.

Ranked alongside the Argentine and USA Opens in world polo terms, the Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup for the British Open Polo Championship starts on June 25 with many of the leading international players in action.

The Midhurst Town Cup will be played on the first weekend of the Gold Cup tournament on Sunday, June 30, when entry is just £5 per person - under-12s free.

The historic local cup will be contested as the principal match of the afternoon. The initial phase of the British Open also includes the Argentine Ambassadors Cup to be played on Sunday, July 7.

On Saturday and Sunday, July 13 and 14, the quarter-finals of the Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup will be played, the semi-finals following on Thursday, July 18. The high-octane final takes place on Sunday, July 21.

Expect to find around 90 retail units in the shopping village, a children’s funfair, bars and food stalls. Entry tickets may be purchased online at www.cowdraypolo.co.uk for the discounted price of £17.50 up to July 5. Thereafter, and on the gate on the day, entry is £20 (under-12s free) and there is free parking.

The BLOOM British Open Ladies’ Championship has its final on the Saturday of Gold Cup weekend, Saturday, July 20. Another busy weekend of polo takes place on August 3-4 when the finals of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Harrison, Jaeger-LeCoultre Holden White and Jaeger-LeCoultre Cowdray Park Challenge Cups are played.

Cowdray Park hosts the finals of the Pony Club National Championships on Sunday, August 11. A full programme of domestic polo continues until the season closes on September 22.
