The final big event in this year’s local cycling calendar was the Inter-club Hill Climb on Knight’s Hill near Goodwood.
This year it was hosted by Bognor Regis Cycling Club and 34 riders took part in conditions that could be best described as ‘fresh’.
The outright win went to Luke Campbell of Southdown Velo, who was overall fastest as well as being fastest junior.
Southdown Velo also retained the team award based on the three fastest riders on aggregate.
Fastest veteran was Graeme Stirzaker of a3crg and fastest lady was Deb Smith of Southdown Velo.
In a competition where power-to-weight ratio is key, it was not surprising that four out of the top ten were juniors. However, next year a number of them will be seniors giving hope to the ‘older’ riders fighting both gravity and age.
