PLAYERS from the Bognor Friday Night Summer League held their pairs knockouts at the Newtown Social Club. Some 70 players competed over the three divisions.

In division three, the first semi-final saw Stuart Turner and Pauline Waller (Aldingbourne SC) took on Mark R Todd and Ben Todd (BRSA Ravens). The Todds had too much and made it to the final.

The second semi-final saw an all-Sports Club knockout between Andy Chant and Sam Chant and their team-mates Rob Allen and Larry Chant. Making it through were Andy and Sam.

The division-three final saw a family affair with the father-and-son team of the Todds up against the Chants. The Chants took the first leg, the Todds the second.

The last leg saw the Todds get the better start and take the title.

Division two saw 11 pairs taking part and in the first semi-final, Stuart Gray and Jeff Church (Old Barn) took on Simon Edwards and Michael Hoare (Aldwick Legion B). Gray and Church had the form to get to the final.

The second semi saw the Friary C pair of Julie English and Tim McCarthy take on Old Barn pair Lee Clark and Ashley Clements. Clark and Clements are first and second in the division-two averages and it showed as they made it to the final.

The final’s first leg saw Gray and Church prevail but they were pegged back in the second. Clark and Clements took the third leg for the title.

Division one saw ten pairs taking part, the smallest turnout in more than ten years.

In the semi-finals, Dave Owens and Lee Franklin (POW Z) beat Derrick Longhurst and Dave Coupland (Wheatsheaf) and Rob Collins and Colin Mace defeated Richard Ragless and Rob Ragless.

The first leg of the final went quickly to Collins and Mace but Owens and Franklin took the second.

Collins was left needing 19 and struck 17 then double one to claim the title.
