Brett Wilkinson and Steve Kirwin are celebrating a ground-breaking season.
The duo have achieved success at home and abroad in their most memorable sidecar motocross campaign to date.
Wilkinson, from Boarhunt, and his passenger Kirwin, of Harting, joined forces at the beginning of the term.
And the partnership went from strength to strength as they finished second in the British Championship and 11th at world level.
The pair were then selected to represent Great Britain in the Moto X Des Nations in Holland, where they raced to fourth overall as the top GB scorers.
Wilkinson, who was fourth in Britain and 15th on the world stage in 2013, was delighted with the improvement.
Now he is eyeing the domestic crown as well as breaking into the top 10 on the planet.
The 22-year-old driver said: ‘It’s been the best season so far in my career.
‘I definitely think it is possible to finish in the top 10 in the World Championship.
‘We have just got to keep training hard.’
Wilkinson and Kirwin finished fifth in the opening round of the British Championship before bagging second next time out.
Disaster struck at the third round – with an exploding shock absorber and a huge crash dropping them to seventh overall.
But the duo then came into their own, with a superb run of form which put them third going into the season finale at Canada Heights in Kent.
Showing great maturity, they took second in the first race before winning the second.
They knew third in the final race would be enough to secure the runners-up spot in the overall standings but the duo went one better as they cruised to second.
At world level, a 10th-place finish in France set the tone for an impressive series – with fine displays following in Estonia, Latvia and the Czech Republic.
They then powered to a brilliant sixth in Switzerland before returning to France where they finished eighth.
The final round in Germany was cancelled because of rain but they had already secured 11th overall.
Team boss Tony Wilkinson, who is also Brett’s uncle, added: ‘Brett has only been riding for a few years and he is getting better and better.
‘It’s been a remarkable year and the aim is now to go for top 10 in the world but they are up against strong competition.’
