Chichester Falcons took the runners-up spot at the annual Lastball Tournament at Southampton.

Up against Oxford, London, Guernsey and Portsmouth, the Falcons chalked up five wins and one loss – although the second day was cut short at an early stage because of heavy rain.

Rookies Amelia Peachment and Clive Janes quickly established themselves as fully-fledged Falcons and stood toe-to-toe with seasoned softballers, while home runs from Ben Sawkins, Belinda Cheetham, James Clarke, Matt Tebb, David Morris and James Wheeler helped demolish the opposition as the Falcons put in consistent, solid performances.

Falcons captain David Morris said: “We showed great team spirit and all pulled together to get a good result. To take runner-up spot in our first outdoor tournament is a massive achievement and caps off a fantastic inaugural season for the Falcons.”

The indoor softball season begins soon: the Falcons will start their programme of indoor training on Friday, October 26 at 8pm at Chichester College sports hall in Westgate Fields.
