Chichester Racquets & Fitness Club hosted its annual Road to Wimbledon event.
It is one of the largest junior competitions in British tennis and gives aspiring young players the opportunity to progress through to the famous grass courts in SW19.
This was the club stage of the annual national 14-and-under boys’ singles, with the winner going onto the county finals in June.
It was organised using a compass draw format of eight players, each match comprising the best of three short sets (to four games), with a match tie-break (to ten points) for the deciding set if needed.
Third place and bronze went to David Bisatt, who defeated Jamie Page-Campbell 2-4, 5-4, 10-6. The eventual winner was Callum McKitterick, who collected the gold medal and qualifies for the county finals.
He defeated Oscar McCall 4-1, 3-5, 10-8 in an excellent and exciting final. All the competitors are members of Chichester Racquets & Fitness Club.
Tournament organiser and referee Peter Cook said: “We were very close to calling the event off because of rain. Thankfully it went ahead and all the players put on excellent performances – and the sun even came out.”
