Petworth Lawn Tennis Club’s Pimms open doubles tournament got off to a gripping start with competitors from other clubs proving they could master the grass surface as well as any home member.

One visiting pair proceeded to scythe through the opposition with almost clinical ease. Could they be beaten?

Much discussion ensued over Pimms and a lunch break in glorious sunshine.

A raft of keen spectators gathered to watch the final after lunch. They were not to be disappointed.

Tension mounted as finalists found themselves even stevens with one game to go. Eventually after three deuces, honours went to the home pair Alice Jeffries and Archie Godman-Dorington.

It was a highly-enjoyable and sporting tournament. See www.petworthtennis.co.uk
