Chichester Junior Netball Club have had a successful season

Chichester Junior Netball Club, run by Claire Cawte and Amy Kyffin, have had a lot to celebrate over the past few weeks.

The club entered under-12, under-14 and under-16 teams into the Portsmouth Junior Netball League for the winter season. All three played exceptionally well and CJNC were runners-up in all three age groups.

The girls really enjoyed playing on Saturdays in Portsmouth and the standard of netball was extremely high.

The club sessions have finished for this school year and the two coaches finished the season with some club awards.

In the first session (school Years 3-6) the winners were Jessica Sanford (most improved player), Lauren Bolger (most dedicated player), Katie Rose (players’ player) and Chloe Wildsmith (exceptional performance).

In Years 7 to 9, the winners were Alex Jarrold and Sasha Arnell-Smith (most improved players), Hope Edwards (most dedicated player), Poppy Wildsmith (players’ player) and Abigail Edwards (exceptional performance).

In Years 10 to 13 the winners were Phoebe Carter (most improved player), Scarlett Hawkins (players’ player), Sophie Barratt (most dedicated player) and Beth Carnegie (exceptional performance).

There is also a club player of the year that goes to someone who has shown an exceptional ability and skill in their netball and who is achieving outstanding results in netball outside of the club.

This went to Libby Swan, who is training with the under-16 Sussex netball squad and has qualified for the player development programme which starts in June. Her next goal is to qualify for the regional team and all at the club wish her well.

Chichester’s under-14s took part in a Fastnet netball tournament and came second in their age group. The under-16s came third in their group.

CJNC started off their summer league with three excellent wins in the Portsmouth Junior Netball Summer League.

The under-12s took on Purbrook and won 10-9. The under-14s also faced Purbrook and played fantastically well to win 24-6 with some outstanding shooting from Abigail Edwards and some strong defence by Jessica Breach and Alex Jarrold.

Chichester’s under-16A team played the Jelly Babies, who they had previously lost to, and won 20-10.
