Motorsport pair Steve and Chris Pannell are having a solid season with their bike and sidecar.

Builder’s merchant Chandlers Building Supplies are sponsoring the Northchapel-based brothers – the link being that they are the nephews of Rob Sadler, who works at the Petworth branch of the firm.

Steve and Chris’ season has been hit by a spot of bike trouble but, with the help of Chandlers, who have a base in Petworth, they are getting things sorted.

After a good start at round one of the SMCA British Clubman’s Sidecar Championship with a win, a second and a seventh place, round two didn’t quite go to plan.

In extremely wet conditions, the brothers came away with only seven points from the whole day and now sit eighth in the championship. However, they are still aiming to finish in the top three.

At the British F1 Sidecar Championship, they are two rounds in. In round one, they finished 15th twice and 16th once. Round two was even better with a ninth, tenth and 13th.

In between these championships, the brothers also took part an international race in France where they finished 12th, 12th and 13th.

Steve Pannell said of the French races: “We were thrilled as the guys who finished just one place ahead of us are Grand Prix regulars and compete at the very highest level, the world championship. We would like to extend our thanks to Chandlers for their sponsorship and hope to continue our success.”

Richard Skinner, commercial director of Chandlers, said: “Chandlers is a great supporter of all sports and I’m delighted we have been able to help Chris and Steve. They look like they are having a fantastic, if slightly muddy, time. I wish them all the best in future rounds.”
