Chichester Falcons put in a steady performance against Southsea Sharks in the Solent Softball League - but were outclassed on the day by sublime pitching and could not find any consistency at bat.

The Falcons went ahead briefly at the start of the second innings thanks to a double from James Wheeler and a three-RBI home run from Ben Sawkins, but the Sharks responded well at the bottom, spraying the ball around to go four runs up.

The next three innings saw a hapless batting performance from the Falcons, with only one run scored among a flurry of strikeouts and sliced flyballs which the Sharks clinically dealt with in the infield.

Vicki Cathie, debuting in an outfield position, earned an MVP award with a faultless performance while Matt Tebb and Sam McGann locked down centre field, but the Sharks continued to batter their way through the order and were well ahead by the sixth.

An encouraging rally from the Falcons saw six runs go on the board thanks to singles from David Morris, Lucy Morris and Belinda Cheetham, playing her final appearance for the Falcons before moving away.

With the Falcons three runs behind at the bottom of the sixth, the Sharks sank their teeth in at bat and left the Falcons with a mountain to climb in the final innings.

Yet another two strikeouts and a force-out at second base put another zero on the board as the Sharks slammed home several runs in the bottom of the seventh to end the game 28-13.
