Such has been the draw of Petworth Tennis Club’s summer mini tennis camps that this year they were extended to run over four weeks, with options to sign up for varying periods.

Word had spread of the professionalism of coach Oliver Ormsby and their success was assured.

Kids were taken through basic skills of eye/racket/ball contact. It was not long before many, even of the four to seven-year-olds, were falling back naturally to the rest position. Soon most were hitting the ball with some skill, even venom.

The eight to 13s were enjoying good knocks with some able to serve and volley to a good standard. There were loads of fun games, especially helpful to the more reserved. Cue: laughter!

For kids come out of their shells, to see ‘I can do it’ all over their smiley faces, the reflected joy in those of their mums watching: that was reward enough.

See www.petworthtennis.co.uk for what the club have to offer.
