WEST Sussex Short Mat Bowls held their annual fours championships.

After the round robin games the quarter-finals matched Southbourne A against Lavant, Horley against Infinity, the Martlets against Bognor and Southbourne B against Ashington.

In the semi-finals the Southbourne A team of Dave Alner, Rodney Bull, Robin Armstrong and Anthony Bull were matched against Infinity’s Jonathan Clear, Ben Haulkham, Chris Page and Dan Blackman.

The Infinity team took the lead after a couple of ends and ran out winners 14-5.

In the second semi-final Bognor’s Betty Williams, Pam Andrews, Clive Andrews and Brian Mills played Ashington’s Yvonne Tolley, Gillian Weston, Chris Jeffery and Richard Jeffery.

In a similar scenario to the other semi-final the Ashington team established a lead after the first few ends and consolidated this to win 15-5.

In the final, despite the play being very competitive, the Ashington skip 17-year-old Richard Jeffery was in top form and Infinity could not match his play. Ashington ran out winners 10-1 to take the their first county title for ten years and the Fours title for the first time.
