Sportiv8 motivates youngsters to get a good start in life

YET more local youngsters have gained qualifications through the innovative Sportiv8 programmes (pictured above).

While completing the course, they can gain a City & Guilds certificate in sport, an NVQ in sport and active leisure and a pre-employment programme based around serving the public and organising sport and equipment.

The students take an active role in sport and their education days are based around the practical side of sport, learning all about coaching and gaining the confidence to lead activity’s.

Sportiv8 run two programmes in Bognor but cover a wide area. One programme is boxing-based, the other football.

Course co-ordinator and football tutor Paul Harris said: “We’re very lucky to be able to open up our courses for a number of students in the wider area thanks to the wonderful support we are given by Stagecoach.

“This allows students to travel on Stagecoach buses free of charge. Without that, many students would simply not be able to get back and forth to the course, and that would mean not being able to complete their studies with us. We must say a big thank-you to Nikki Jones and the directors of the company.”

Sportiv8 have been active locally for several years and a large number of students have gained qualifications. Sportiv8 offer a ‘stepping stone’ to get youngsters on to college courses.

“We have worked closely in the past with Chichester College in helping young people take the small step first and then look at the courses on offer,” Harris said. They are hoping for a new tie-in with another local educational establishment.

Sportiv8 courses are for those aged 16 to 23 not in education or employment. Those in part-time education are welcome. There are plans to run two short courses in sport leadership during the summer for those aged 14-plus and those aged 16-23.
