Bognor Queensbury boxing light welterweight champion Jimmy Harrison has promised challenger Shaun Walton a baptism by fire into the competition when the pair collide on September 22 at Epsom Downs racecourse in Surrey.
Harrison reignited his boxing career back in April at the age of 45 when he appeared on prominent sports channel British Eurosport to capture the prestigious Queensbury Boxing League British light welterweight title with an impressive win over Paul Haines from Manchester.
And after proving he still has the skills to compete with the division’s best, he has now set his sights on retaining his title in style with a knockout performance.
“It was a fantastic experience being involved in the league, and winning that title was one of the highlights of my boxing career both as an amateur and a pro,” said Harrison.
“Now I’ve been back in the gym for a while now, I feel I’ve shaken off the rust and my preparations for this first defence are going really well – I feel I’m punching harder than ever.”
The man looking to end Harrison’s reign at the top of the division will be former amateur star Walton, from Telford, who, like Harrison, also competed as a pro before making the move to the league. But Harrison is convinced it will be his trademark body punches that will ensure Walton will return home empty-handed.
“I know Shaun’s experienced and is going to be a dangerous opponent, but I’m looking at finishing this fight quickly and doing it in style.
“I think my work-rate and body punches are going to be the deciding factor and I am really looking forward to the fight.”
