CHICHESTER and ToneZone runners turned out for the Hampshire 10k as gale-force winds and lashing rain tested their resolve.

Chichester’s James Baker added another race victory to his tally, which is edging towards 500. His winning time of 32.44 must rank as one of his slowest ever but represented a true test of stamina.

Team-mates Andrew Moore and Nick Palmer were 33rd and 44th respectively while Jane Harrop gave another storming performance with second place in the women’s race and top over-50 award.

Felicity Paten and Sue Baker finished 11th and 21st respectively to join with Harrop and win the women’s team prize.

Felpham-based ToneZone fielded nine runners. Simon Gill was first home among them, finishing in an impressive 35.12. Gill pushed the early pacesetters from the start and finished fifth overall.

Meanwhile, two ToneZone runners competed at Sussex’s Three Forts marathon and half marathon in wet, muddy conditions.

David Butler competed in his second marathon in a month in a time of 4hr 54min while the ever-smiling Miyako Scott finished the half marathon in a time of 2.26.

Peter Chittenden participated in the Mid Sussex marathon weekend staged over three consecutive days.

TONEZONE HAMPSHIRE 10k TIMES: Simon Gill 35mins, Melvyn Bird 41, Ian Bayley 45, Chris Gallagher 46, Gary Pidgeon 47, Roy Webb 53, Yvonne Lee 57, Jo Langrish 1hr, Sarah Baker 1hr.
