Sailing duo want to represent Team GB at Rio 2016

James Peters and Ed Fitzgerald, supported by Selsey-based marine blind and shading company Oceanair, are two young sailors in the RYA Skandia Olympic Development Squad in the demanding 49er class.

Both local home-grown sailors from the waters of Chichester Harbour, the pair already have their sights set on securing a place representing Team GB in the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

Last year was a successful year in bringing their Olympic goal a few steps closer after a summer of training and competing across Europe. Their season culminated at the 49er European Championships, where the Under-23 Youth World Championship title was also up for grabs.

After a very close and exciting week of sailing, the pair were crowned Under-23 World Champions and 49er European bronze medallists.

The team said none of this would have been possible without the support from their sponsors. Oceanair, marine blind and shading experts, have supported the boys since 2009 and the whole team at Oceanair are proud to see the boys doing so well this season.

Peters and Fitzgerald are also supported by BMW Chandlers Worthing, who have provided them with a Mini Countryman Dall4, ensuring they can ferry their boat and associated kit far and wide as they travel around the UK and Europe.

Looking ahead to the 2013 season, the boys plan to fit in as much competitive sailing and training in and around their university studies. The main aim for the season is to come top ten at the 49er World Championships in September 2013.

Oceanair will be continuing their sponsorship throughout 2013 and look forward to following their progress in the year ahead.
