The Observer's first ever business to business exhibition got off to a flying start yesterday (October 28).
Business Focus 2009 held at Chichester College included more than 40 exhibitors as well as masterclasses and seminars on various aspects of business such as finance, law and marketing.

Held at Chichester College, the event was organised with the support of the Chichester Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Chichester District Council.

Businesses from around Chichester and further afield attended the event, which offered visitors the opportunity to network with other businesses as well as shop for services and products.

From early on the day was buzzing with business talk and there was the chance for people to take part in question and answer sessions with its 'success panels' which gave people an insight into the world of business.

Representative for Kinnarps UK, Stuart Sheppard said: "This event is such a good idea. It provides opportunities for businesses to gain local exposure."

Despite the recession, optimism was abundant with businesses remaining upbeat about the economy.

David Pick from Media Right's protection said: "Recession bought an opportunity to start things up on a low cost basis. Low overheads make now a healthy time to start up a business.

"A day like this is a brilliant idea for those with an initial business idea, yet who need some help to get it started."

Former nurse Christine Lemm (COR) entered the business world seven years ago. Her company Your Healthy Home sells luxury products which do not include the harmful chemicals that many mainstream brands have.

"The best thing is talking to people on a one to one basis, you can speak to them and then advise," she said.

A cheese and wine networking session concluded the day, and proved to be a successful end to the first of what is hoped to be an annual event.
