DESIGN details for the planned Worthing College re-development have been approved.
Outline planning permission was given to the scheme to transform the college in Bolsover Road back in September, 2008.

At a meeting at Worthing Town Hall, planners approved an application outlining details of the design.

Peter Corrigan, the principal, said: "The vote was unanimous and the comments made by councillors were very supportive.

"It was mentioned how we had worked well with local residents to respond to their concerns and keep them informed."

The re-development will feature a new college building, 124 residential units, nursery and sports facilities, car parking and a service outbuilding.

The college is still waiting to hear if money approved in principle by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) will finally be given, after the LSC announced a funding crisis earlier this year.

A decision is expected next month.

Mr Corrigan said: "Getting this planning approval means we can prove to the LSC that planning is not an obstacle and, hopefully, will be able to move ahead with the scheme this summer."
