THE glitz and glamour of Hollywood — along with an Elvis impersonator — will arrive in town next month as part of the annual Durrington Festival.
The festival, set to take place from June 7 to 15, was established in 1992 and since then has been entertaining thousands of people from the area every year.

Peter Bloxham, chairman of the Durrington Festival organising committee, said: "The event is totally free and we put it on to give something back to the Durrington community. We work really hard organising the festival and it always proves successful."

The event, which will have a Hollywood theme, will start on Saturday, June 7, and throughout the week there will be various events and exhibits.

On Sunday, June 8, there will be an open gardens event in Durrington. Throughout the rest of the week, there will be local history events in New Life Church hall, Greenland Road, book tasters in Durrington Library, Salvington Road, and a programme of events at the Lamb pub, Salvington Road.

On Saturday, June 14, the Hollywood Village Fair, carnival procession and evening concert will be staged at Pond Lane recreation ground.

The village fair will take place from 1pm to 5pm and will feature charity stalls, a balloon release, dog agility competition with prizes and arena events.

Also expected is a bouncy castle, refreshments and demonstrations from a local wrestling group, Brighton and Hove Albion sports coaches, a musical theatre group and Northbrook College automobile student.

The Harris Brothers fun fair will be on the recreation ground on Friday, June 13, and Saturday, June 14.

The carnival procession will leave Equiniti (formerly Lloyds TSB Registrars) in Yeoman Road, Durrington, at 1.30pm and will be led by the carnival prince and princess, their attendants and Elvis.

The procession will make its way along Romany Road and New Road to the recreation ground.

Elvis impersonator Lee Rivers will be entertaining the crowds during the afternoon, before taking to the stage at 5pm, alongside local bands, for an evening concert.

Colin Pryce, a member of the festival committee, said: "The festival is all about bringing the community together. So many people tell us how great the festivals are. It is also a good opportunity for charities to raise money." For more details, visit www.durringtonfestival.org.uk

Anyone interested in sponsoring the festival should call Peter Bloxham on 01903 691146 or 07989 177429.
