The popular Win A Car event in The Beacon would normally take place from mid-November until Christmas with shoppers buying tickets in the hope of winning a brand new vehicle and also supporting charities which benefit from sales.
Over the last 20 years, hundreds of thousands of pounds have been raised for various charities and organisations but this week it was announced the annual initiative was being cancelled.

Hide AdBill Plumridge, the manager of The Beacon, said, “Sadly, we have had to take the decision not to hold our annual Christmas Win A Car event in the centre this year.
“The constraints of Covid-19 meant the practicality of running the event would have been impossible.
“We have held Win A Car for 20 years and raised more than £364,000 for local charities so we are hugely disappointed not to be hosting the event and also very sorry that so many local charities will be unable to raise much-needed funds for their worthy causes this year – especially as many will have suffered financially during the pandemic.”
