Crawley man jailed over bogus repairs scam

Two bogus workmen, including a man from Crawley, who attempted to con elderly victims by falsely claiming urgent repair works were required on their properties have been jailed.

A Met Police statement says that Lee Murphy, 37, of Elder Close, Crawley, and Martin Francis Sweeney, 42, of Marsh Lane, Aylesbury, were sentenced on Wednesday (December 13), at Isleworth Crown Court for conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation.

Sweeney received five years and three months; and Murphy four years, plus an additional year sentence for breaching his suspended sentence regarding an unrelated matter.

The pair were originally found guilty on November 13 following a trial at the same court.
