University expansion: 'Residents must be considered'

Remember the residents, a Bognor Regis councillor has urged university officials.

Cllr David Biss said the needs of homeowners who lived around the campus had to be taken into account during the planned expansion.

He was particularly concerned about the impact on surrounding roads of the expected doubling in student numbers.

This threatens to worsen the problem of inconsiderate parking in roads such as Hook Lane and Mead Lane which causes friction between those who live there and those who study there.

Cllr Biss (Orchard), who has been involved trying to sort out the residents' concerns, said it was important their concerns were considered.

"I am worried about the traffic that will arise from an expansion of the campus," he stated. "I would like to see a traffic plan produced to make sure that residents know we are looking after them as well as the students."

University strategy development and implementation manager Romy Jones said: "We take this matter very seriously."
