Chichester: they slipped through history’s net

The lost giants of world history are explored in The Z-List Dead List, a talk by comedian Iszi Lawrence for Chichester Skeptics.

Skeptics chairman Jon Percival said: “There are giants of history such as Isaac Newton and Winston Churchill, but history is awash with gripping stories of people who have made a similar contribution to the world but have not found any recognition for their achievements.”

Iszi has scoured the history books to put together a collection of such overlooked characters: people such as Alexander Laing, the first European to cross the Sahara, losing a hand, being accused of murder and being beaten in the process; and Caroline Herschel, the first woman to be paid for her contribution to science and become a member of the Royal Astronomical Society despite not having a formal education.

Jon added: “Iszi’s talk will be a history lesson like no other. Iszi was a semi-finalist at the BBC New Comdey Awards and is a seasoned comedy performer having first appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe at 17 years old.”

The talk takes place on Tuesday, April 7 at the Chichester Inn, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets for the event will be available on the door, priced at £3.
